For the design of the museum building, the Stiftung Exilmuseum Berlin launched an international architectural competition, inviting ten internationally known firms to participate. Ten internationally known firms with a background in museum architecture were invited to propose designs for a new building, which will incorporate the portico ruins of the former Anhalter Bahnhof. First prize was awarded to the architectural firm of Dorte Mandrup of Copenhagen. The Exilmuseum Berlin plans to open its doors in 2025.
As experts, the architect Eva Walter [fire protection] and the architect Jacob van Ommen [cost efficiency] from the architecture office DGI Bauwerk contributed their expertise to the decision-making of the ten-person jury.
