The centre of the FAIR construction site in Darmstadt is an underground accelerator ring with a circumference of almost 1100 metres, through which ions will later race at almost the speed of light.
At the beginning of March, the first section – just under a third of the tunnel – was completed to such an extent that the technical building equipment (TGA) could begin there. The brackets for the cable routes are being installed.
For the handover of this section, the concrete surfaces had to be prepared and the wall and ceiling paints as well as the floor coating applied.
A construction hoist has been installed and an overhead crane mounted in the delivery area of the ground floor to transport the materials of the building services companies from the ground floor to the tunnel level in the 3rd basement.
Ion42, a consortium of the DGI Bauwerk and schneider + schumacher architects, is responsible for the design and realisation.
