GSI HELMHOLTZZENTRUM FÜR SCHWERIONENFORSCHUNG GMBH, DARMSTADT, NEW CONSTRUCTION OF A TESTING HALL

For the locally based testing of the installation components for the FAIR project, the four utilization areas of HF [high frequency], Kicker [injection extraction], UHV [ultrahigh vacuum] and detector laboratory are united in the testing hall. The planning and design process was defined by following parameter: accommodation of all four utilization areas in one building in spite of different requirements, integration of the relative cubic capacity in the construction area between planned P-Linac and the continuance buildings, opening up the hall for access and transit option for heavy goods vehicles, installation of 30 tons crane system with 7.5-m hook height, accommodation of the detector laboratory with gray area and clean room on two levels and vibration-free installation of scientific devices. The detector laboratory with the testing hall has a rectangular layout with the exterior dimensions of 75 m x 36 m with approx. 12 m and/or 14 m total height.
