To ensure reliable user operation of BESSY II in the future, two construction phases of the testing hall with laboratories, offices and meeting rooms as well as workshops and halls were built. On the eastern side of the construction site, the first construction phase of the testing hall was built with measuring stations and test stands for the institutes Accelerator Physics, SRF Science and Technology-HZB and Undulator Construction.Special requirements necessitate several special constructions, such as special radiation protection, fire protection and safety measures for construction in sensitive environments [BESSY II].
Both building sections are constructed as reinforced concrete buildings with rear-ventilated and thermally insulated metal façades. In addition, the 2nd construction phase received a building-integrated photovoltaic system [BIPV] made of CIGS modules. This has created a “real laboratory” for the HZB, where research is conducted on topics such as long-term monitoring and yield analyses in real operation.
