RECONSTRUCTION AND HERITAGE
CASTLE WITTENBERG,
LUTHERSTADT WITTENBERG, GERMANY

2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation Jubilee launched with the posting of Luther’s theses on the Wittenberg church doors. The Schlosskirche (castle church), which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, forms a historic ensemble with the Castle. In course of the reconstruction of the ensemble, a visitor centre for the Schlosskirche is now being built as well as a reformation-historical research library.
In the castle church restoration tasks predominate. A new structure on the roof interprets the motif of a cloister. The aesthetic appearance is characterized by the reduction of the materials in the expansion.

DGI Bauwerk was responsible for the construction management on behalf of ARGE Sanierung Schloss Wittenberg. The core element of the construction process and the challenge for the DGI Bauwerk’s construction management was to keep the completion date for the jubilee 2017 – jointly with all project participants and despite unredictable surprises due to the historical construction.
