In the practical part of her master’s thesis within the Spatial Strategies programme at the Weissensee Kunsthochschule Berlin, Marta Gutierres Nobre Ramos Setúbal will focus on: the bound between inhabitants and their changing hometown in Portugal. Two years of intensive on-site research, film and sound recordings, interviews and workshops revealed a deep disappointment and resignation of the city residents.
A location within the city is to emerge, the Arquivo Popular, which should become the starting point for activities especially in the public areas of the city. The archive project is a dispositive that relies on the participation of the residents. A spatially-creative and temporally structured start-up phase will provide impetus for an open-ended process.
Common stories, memories and desires are formulated and created to show confidence, motivation and opportunities in participating the social life at small Vila Real de Santo António.
