The emerging Centre for Fundamental Physics will create tailor-made conditions for excellent research. The topping-out ceremony for the four-storey CFP II laboratory and office building designed by DGI Bauwerk has now been celebrated.
Words of welcome from Science Minister Clemens Hoch, Finance and Construction Minister Doris Ahnen, Dr. Waltraud Kreutz-Gers, Chancellor of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Prof. Dr. Volker Büscher, Professor at the Institute of Physics and construction supervisor of CFP II, and Holger Basten, Managing Director of Landesbetrieb LBB, emphasised the importance for cutting-edge research of the federally funded excellence cluster PRISMA+ in the field of particle and hadron physics.
The building is scheduled to be completed in summer 2023.
The new laboratory and office building CFP II is complementary to the sub-project CFP I, which includes the conversion and expansion of the existing underground experiment halls to accommodate the new innovative electron accelerator MESA.
