Indo-German Smart Initiative:
Collaborative Approaches for Integrated Urban Development in Indian Cities
With an integrated approach in mind, the Indo-German Smart Initiative aimes at combining multidisciplinary knowledge in urban development, architecture and infrastructure supply. New methods and formats will allow all stakeholders and user groups to be involved in urban co-production, in all phases of planning and implementation.
In Phase I, the focus of the Indo-German Smart Initiative aims at the development and compilation of tool kits for implementation which are applicable to the scale of the urban area or quarter.
Phase II includes a pilot project. Here, the principally re-occurring topics of the smart city proposals will be elaborated into an integrated urban concept and put into reality. This will allow the introduction of the smart city tool kit along with German expertise in the various key areas of integreted urban development, such as for example: traffic planning and transit oriented development [TOD] as an instrument for sus¬tainable urban structures – e.g. urban densification near new train and metro lines; or the development, adaptation and preservation of historical urban fabric on the basis of heritage principles.
