During the construction of the new Experiment Hall 1, the necessary radiation shielding standards will be achieved using a detailed concrete pouring strategy that serves as the basis of the design. This includes demanding monitoring and documentation of each of the steps in the process. A major challenge is that the 2.5m thick ceiling slab needs to be poured as one piece meaning that work starts at 4:00am with back-ups for all the necessary equipment, including a concrete plant, being readily available in order to ensure that the work is carried out without interruption. The long curing times [28+28 days] will also create its own challenges that have been taken into account.
