The Max Born Institute [MBI] deals with fundamental research in the field of interaction of materials and laser light and tracks the resulting application aspects. For the implementation of this interaction experiments and in the context of enlargement of the high-field laser radiation protection parameters had to be taken. The corresponding radiation protection area is located in the existing building, directly linked to the existing laser room. A sliding radiation protection gate with additional chicane or labyrinth separates the laser room from the surrounding area. The radiation protection area is implemented as a ‘house in house construction’ in an unitised construction with walls and ceilings out of hematite concrete. The technical building equipment is integrated into the existing TGA.
