NEW CONSTRUCTION FRAUNHOFER INSTITUTE FOR MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND APPLIED ECOLOGY IME GIESSEN

The Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME conducts applied life sciences from molecules to ecosystems. The planning for the new Fraunhofer Institute IME is the first step towards creating the entree of the technology and industrial park Leihgesterner Weg right next to the natural sciences campus of the Julius-Liebig University. A compact, rectangular building houses laboratories and offices. The 4-storey laboratory part is offset by a 6-storey office part with the same total building height of about 21 m. The different numbers of floors within the clearly structured building gives the building an exciting outdoor and indoor effect. The L-shaped atrium connects the two areas and provides an opening of the building to the court and to the university.
